ORTHODONTICS

A great smile is a confidence builder!
Did you know that proper dental alignment helps keep teeth healthy, and prevents cavities and gum disease? But did you also know that having an attractive smile could improve your self-esteem and confidence?
Your orthodontic needs
The positioning of your jaw and teeth has a direct impact on the quality of occlusion; that is, the extent to which your upper teeth and lower teeth will fit together when your jaw is closed. When this alignment is not perfect, your upper and lower teeth will not interlock, which is called malocclusion. Having missing, misaligned, overlapping or overhanging teeth will contribute to malocclusion. This problem causes health impacts and may worsen over time.
Malocclusion may also make chewing difficult, speed up tooth erosion and even trigger muscular tension and pain. Furthermore, misaligned or overlapping teeth are more difficult to brush, which increases your risk of cavities and gum disease. Correcting malocclusion will improve your smile, of course, but it will boost your general health too.
More about orthodontics
Children
An orthodontic consultation at 7-8 years of age will help us detect any dental or jaw development issues. To determine if orthodontics can help correct your child’s malocclusion, the dentist will conduct a more thorough orthodontic screening. Interceptive orthodontic treatments are early interventions that treat or slow down the progression of a child’s dental problem.
Adolescents
As adolescence coincides with the eruption of permanent teeth, orthodontic treatments for teens are different than those for children, since they must take growth spurts and puberty into account. It is during this time that problems like overlapping teeth and misaligned jaws can be corrected by orthodontic appliances (commonly known as braces) within 12-24 months. There are various degrees of malocclusion that can be corrected by treatments that are specially adapted for this purpose. Only an orthodontist can make a precise diagnosis and determine the most appropriate type of treatment.
Adults
The alignment of your teeth can be modified at any age. An increasing number of adults are opting for orthodontic treatments to improve the health and appearance of their smiles.
